But this city in the Nevada Desert isn’t just about that. Far from it, in fact. It’s a place where entrepreneurship is in the people’s DNA. After all, the original Western settlers wouldn’t have survived in the desert for long without a bit of acumen. It’s an ethos that continues to this day. Deals are stuck, solutions are found, and after the paperwork is signed, well, you can hit the town. With LA a few hours’ drive away, or an hour’s flight, it’s also a handy getaway destination for one of the USA’s most important centres of commerce, creativity, technology and science.
There also happens to be a wealth of venues for trade shows and exhibitions, which is why you should consider it to be a prime location if you’re planning to exhibit or simply attend an event. The numbers alone make a pretty compelling case. According to Vegas Means Business, the city welcomed over six million business travellers in 2024 to attend conventions and exhibitions. There’s no shortage of fantastic venues, either.
The recently expanded Las Vegas Convention Center alone covers more than 4.6 million square feet of space, comprising 2.5 million square feet of exhibit space (just try to picture that number for a moment), plus 225 meeting rooms. Indeed, in a recent article, Exhibitor Online ranks it America’s most popular convention centre. The top 50 in that list has no fewer than four Las Vegas venues, with the Mandalay Bay Convention Center, the Venetian Expo and Caesar’s Forum being the other three. Not bad for a city with a population of about 700,000 (although the wider metropolitan area is closer to three million).
For exhibitors, that scale means that your target audience is already travelling to Vegas. The logistics infrastructure, from freight handlers, AV suppliers and stand builders to rigging specialists, is highly experienced, and is embedded into the local ecosystem. It’s a city that has been hosting major events for decades, and has refined every part of the process.
Major Las Vegas events
If you need more evidence that Las Vegas is the place to exhibit, just look at the globally famous events that choose the city to host its flagship events, year after year.
CES (The Consumer Electronics Show)
This could be the most famous trade show in the world, taking over pretty much the whole city every January. With over 130,000 attendees and thousands of exhibitors spanning everything from AI and robotics to automotive technology, CES is where the world’s biggest tech companies unveil their latest developments and wow the crowds. It’s one of those shows that attracts media from all over the world, and not just in the tech sector. Mainstream news networks cover it too, because many of the products on show are destined to become parts of our everyday lives.
Conexpo-Con/Agg
Held every three years, Conexpo-Con/Agg is the largest construction industry trade show in North America, regularly attracting over 130,000 visitors from every corner of the world. Exhibitors show up with full-scale heavy machinery and perform live demonstrations of their capabilities. Architects, builders and civil engineers flock there to see the large outdoor displays that would simply be impossible to stage in most other locations.
The SEMA Show
The Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) Show is focused on the automotive aftermarket sector, and draws a global crowd every year. It’s a huge event for this car-loving nation, with over 160,000 industry professionals descending on the Las Vegas Convention Center to see the latest vehicles, parts and technology.
The NAB Show
The National Association of Broadcasters has its annual gathering of the broadcast, media and entertainment technology specialists in Las Vegas every April, and consistently attracts over 90,000 attendees. As with all the other big shows, it has a global reach, and many of the technologies used by the industry will have had their first public demonstrations here.
A perfect infrastructure for business
An underappreciated aspect of exhibiting in Las Vegas is the way the city itself functions so seamlessly. There’s a concentration of hotel rooms within walking distance (or a short monorail ride, of course) from the main convention venues. Once they’ve got themselves settled into their hotel rooms, attendees simply don’t need to contend with traffic jams or even taxi rides, because everything is on their doorstep.
Harry Reid International Airport handles direct flights from hundreds of destinations globally, and it’s literally in the heart of the city, just 3 miles from the Convention Center – where else can boast that kind of connectivity?
And we can’t ignore the fact that Las Vegas is a city built for entertainment. Conventions often last several days, and some places leave visitors with nothing to do but count their business cards once the doors close each night. You can organise tickets to shows for your team, or simply visit one of the many restaurants, bars or casinos for some bonding time. While that might not be the reason you want to exhibit, it’s certainly a factor in many businesses’ choice to set up their stand in this vibrant city, and it helps to keep the numbers of visitors high.
Breaking expectations
Hopefully, we’ve shown you that there’s a lot more to Las Vegas than gambling and nightlife. It’s a thriving place to do business, and there’s a long list of organisations that come back every year to prove the point. So if you’re only going to attend or exhibit at one place in the USA, Vegas has to be top of your list, especially if you’re in tech, automotive, construction or media. What happens in Vegas’s trade events soon becomes part of our everyday lives.
